Unlike the first Special Issue on Micromanufacturing, published in Vol. 126, No. 4 in November of 2004, this Special Issue was not planned ahead of time. It just happened that a substantial number of papers in the publication queue in the time-frame when the June issue of the journal was being composed fell into this category. Therefore, I felt that in spite of a slight violation of the policy that calls for papers to be published in the chronological order of acceptance, it would be beneficial to group papers on Micromanufacturing into a single issue for the benefit of the increasing number of researchers entering this rapidly growing field.
I also would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank all the authors for their effort in submitting their work to the Journal. The dedication of the Associate Editors and the prompt and thorough review of the countless reviewers are also gratefully acknowledged.
