I am very pleased to succeed Prof. David McDowell as the new Editor of Transactions of the ASME, Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology. I would like to thank David for his strong contributions to the journal during his term as Editor and especially for spearheading some excellent special issues. As Editor I look forward to working with the materials and mechanics community, and the ASME Materials Division Executive Committee.
The scope of the journal remains the same. It is one of the best venues for publishing papers linking mechanics and materials science and engineering. The science emphasis in the journal has increased over the years commensurate with an increase in funding of fundamental research in materials in the 1990s and post 2000.
