Welding groove geometry is one of the factors determining the structure’s weld-induced deformation. There are three types of welding groove geometry available for a full-welded ball valve. Multipass butt-welded plate experiments and finite element analysis were applied to determine which is the best of the valve. The experiments and analysis both show that the U-q groove is the best choice for the full-welded ball valve to get the smallest weld-induced deformation.
